Stopping Flight Diameter Loss on a Limestone Screw Conveyor

Custom contoured SCProbond™ N flight plates kept a limestone screw conveyor's flights from wearing thin — manufacturing marks are still visible on the surface after months of continuous service.

Executive Summary

The Bottom Line

A returning SCP customer's limestone screw conveyor was steadily losing flight diameter to continuous abrasive wear, cutting into conveying efficiency. Custom contoured SCProbond™ N flight plates, manufactured to the exact dimensions of the screw and housing, have kept diameter intact for over 20 months and counting — with a related shaft liner running two full years with no noticeable wear.

The challenge

Flight Diameter Loss Under Continuous Wear

A returning SCP customer's screw conveyor flights were steadily losing diameter under continuous abrasive limestone conveyance. As the flights wore thin, conveying efficiency dropped, and the equipment would eventually need full replacement — a costly and disruptive outcome the customer wanted to avoid.

The SCProbond™ Approach

How We Solved It

Grade used: SCProbond™ N

01

Capture Exact Dimensions

The customer provided the exact dimensions of both the screw and housing so every plate would fit precisely.

02

Manufacture Contoured Plates

SCP manufactured custom contoured 90-degree SCProbond™ N flight plates lining the full length of the conveyor.

03

Extend to Related Components

Building on the result, the same customer added an SCProbond™ shaft liner and reconfigured feed chutes with SCP product.

In Service, Diameter Preserved

The contoured flight plates have extended conveyor lifetime by over 20 months and counting.

2 Years

Wear-Free Shaft Liner

The original shaft liner had worn through in under two years before switching to SCP.

SCP made a shaft liner for our air separator, the original lasted less than 2 years before it was worn in two pieces. Since we installed the SCP liner we have run for two years with no noticeable wear … Last year we reconfigured a couple feed chutes with all SCP product. The writing from the manufacturing process is still visible after running nearly 80,000 tons of 1/4" minus over it.
