Nitride Bonded

SCProbond™ TW

SCProbond™ TW is SCP's thin-wall nitride-bonded silicon carbide engineered for components where space, weight, or geometry limits wall thickness without sacrificing the wear and high-temperature performance expected from NBSiC.

Overview

Built for Thin-Wall Silicon Carbide Components

SCProbond™ TW was developed to solve a common manufacturing challenge: producing nitride-bonded silicon carbide components with wall thicknesses below 3/8" while maintaining the wear performance and high-temperature capability.

SCProbond™ TW can be cast from 1/4" to 3/8", making it well suited for applications where a wear- or corrosion-resistant ceramic component is needed but available space, weight limits or desired heat transfer drive the design.

Looking for wall thickness 3/8" - 3/4"? See SCProbond™ N. Over 3/4"? See SCProbond™ TN.

Performance

Why Choose SCProbond™ TW for Thin-Wall Components?

SCProbond™ TW combines the hardness and wear resistance of silicon carbide with a formulation specifically developed for thin-wall NBSiC manufacturing. It gives engineers another option when a conventional ceramic component would be too thick, too heavy, or difficult to cast in the required geometry.

Thin-Wall Manufacturing

SCProbond™ TW can be cast in the 0.25" - 0.375" range, helping engineers incorporate silicon carbide into components where available space or geometry limits wall thickness.

Abrasion Resistance

With an ASTM C704 volumetric abrasion loss of 1.65 cc, SCProbond™ TW is designed for severe industrial environments where resistance to abrasive wear is critical.

High Flexural Strength

SCProbond™ TW has a reported modulus of rupture of 18,769 psi (129.4 MPa), providing high flexural strength for thin ceramic sections.

Strength Gain When Thermally Cycled

Components exhibit ~15% gain in flexural strength after thermal cycling. As seen in ASTM C1171 testing.

How Does SCProbond™ Compare in Abrasion Resistance?

For applications where abrasive wear drives component replacement, ASTM C704 provides a standardized way to compare the relative abrasion resistance of these materials. In SCP's testing, SCProbond™ N, TN, and TW demonstrated lower volume loss than the competitor NBSiC grades shown below.

SCP ASTM C704 Chart

Lower ASTM C704 volume loss indicates less material loss under the standardized test conditions. Results from laboratory testing should be used as a comparative reference and may not directly predict performance in a specific application.

What does this mean for your application?

Lower abrasion loss can be an important consideration when selecting silicon carbide for components exposed to continuous abrasive service. SCP's SCProbond™ N, TN, and TW grades are engineered for different wall thicknesses and application requirements, giving engineers multiple nitride-bonded options when wear resistance is a primary concern.

Pricing Notes

Pricing Is Quoted Per Project

SCProbond™ TW pricing depends on part geometry, wall thickness, tolerance requirements, order volume, and whether tooling already exists. Manufacturability, aspect ratio, and overall part dimensions all factor into final cost.

Repeat orders on existing tooling are typically the most cost-effective path since tooling costs are already amortized. Send us your drawing for an accurate, project-specific quote.
