Nitride Bonded

SCProbond™ N

SCProbond™ N is SCP's longstanding nitride-bonded silicon carbide, engineered for components with typical wall thicknesses from 3/8" to 3/4". It combines excellent thermal shock resistance with the hardness and wear resistance of silicon carbide for demanding industrial applications.

Overview

Designed for Abrasion, Thermal and Chemical Environments

SCProbond™ N combines silicon carbide grains with a silicon nitride bond to create a ceramic material suited to demanding environments where abrasion, thermal cycling, high temperatures, and chemical attack are concerns.

Its ability to be cast close to final shape also makes SCProbond™ N a cost-effective choice for complex custom components, particularly where conventional materials may have design constraints or fail too quickly.

Performance

Why Choose SCProbond™ N?

Excellent Thermal Cycling and Shock Resistance

SCProbond™ N is engineered for applications exposed to repeated heating and cooling, making it also well suited to components where resistance to thermal shock is critical.

Abrasion Resistance

Silicon carbide's inherent hardness provides strong resistance to abrasive wear, supporting applications such as bulk material handling, wear components, and refractory shapes.

High-Temperature Performance

SCProbond™ N has a listed maximum safe operating temperature of 2,777°F (1,525°C), dependent upon atmosphere.

Complex Custom Geometries

WIth in-house patterning and tooling, SCP produces complex custom components while reducing the need for extensive post-fire processing.

How Does SCProbond™ Compare in Abrasion Resistance?

For applications where abrasive wear drives component replacement, ASTM C704 provides a standardized way to compare the relative abrasion resistance of these materials. In SCP's testing, SCProbond™ N, TN, and TW demonstrated lower volume loss than the competitor NBSiC grades shown below.

SCP ASTM C704 Chart

Lower ASTM C704 volume loss indicates less material loss under the standardized test conditions. Results from laboratory testing should be used as a comparative reference and may not directly predict performance in a specific application.

What does this mean for your application?

Lower abrasion loss can be an important consideration when selecting silicon carbide for components exposed to continuous abrasive service. SCP's SCProbond™ N, TN, and TW grades are engineered for different wall thicknesses and application requirements, giving engineers multiple nitride-bonded options when wear resistance is a primary concern.

Pricing Notes

Pricing Is Quoted Per Project

SCProbond™ N pricing depends on part geometry, wall thickness, tolerance requirements, order volume, and whether tooling already exists. Manufacturability, aspect ratio, and overall part dimensions all factor into final cost.

Repeat orders on existing tooling are typically the most cost-effective path since tooling costs are already amortized. Send us your drawing for an accurate, project-specific quote.
